Identity theft and related fraud are on the rise. Identity thieves are continually finding new methods of committing these crimes. To protect yourself, stay on top of the latest information regarding identity theft. Avoid ID Theft - the Federal Trade Commission's (FTC) Identity Theft Resource. This is the official ID Theft awareness site of the Federal Trade Commission and provides a wealth of information on how to protect yourself or recover from identity theft.

Take Charge: Fighting Back Against Identity Theft. This 52-page document in PDF format is a must-have for anyone who has been victimized by identity theft or related fraud. It also contains extremely valuable information about preventing ID theft. An HTML version is also available.

Fraud Watch International's Phishing Alerts page - an excellent resource for detecting fraudulent e-mails. If you get an e-mail that you aren't sure if it's legitimate or not, check this site to see if it is a known scam.

Internet Fraud Tips from the National Consumer League's Internet Fraud Watch. Provides general internet fraud information as well as very specific examples of known scams and tactics employed by identity thieves.

Consumer Sentinel - Consumer Sentinel is a consumer fraud complaint database developed and maintained by the FTC. This website provides general information as well as very specific reports about consumer fraud, trends, and related data.

Privacy Rights Clearinghouse - an excellent resource on identity theft, privacy, and fraud. Includes true stories of fraud victims and what to do if you have been victimized.

Social Security Administration's Identity Theft resource - contains general ID theft information as well as links to what to do if your Social Security number has been obtained and/or is being used fraudulently.
